Welcome to Mrs. Nunez's Classroom

My name is Christina Nunez and  I am a fifth grade teacher in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I graduated from the University of New Mexico with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Education with a Spanish minor, and later with my Masters in Elementary Education.  I hold a Level II teaching license with a TESOL endorsement.

I have taught with Albuquerque Public Schools for 9 years, 8 at Barcelona Elementary School; and currently at Zuni Elementary. Prior to teaching I was a substitute educational assistant. Children are in every aspect of my life. I am a teacher during the day, I am a mom in the evenings, and I am a Sunday School teacher on the weekends. I am an enthusiastic, caring educator whose primary goal is to never stop growing as a teacher. I love to incorporate a variety of different educational methodologies into my teaching, while still maintaining my own “voice”. I love to create activities that are hands-on, engaging and exciting for my students and my children, but are still challenging.  I pride myself on redefining and expanding my experience to be a better teacher every year. I love to incorporate technology into my classroom and this year I am excited to use this website as a tool for parents and students.

Reading and Math Discipline System.

Students have their names written down on cards. Students in PBL are green, students who are in reading are red, students in math class are blue and students whose names are in purple are in both reading and math class.  All students start their names on green everyday. Green is for students who are on task and working well in teams.

When student are off task for any of the following behaviors they need to move their name down to the next color. Each color has a specific consequence.

BLUE- is a warning. Student behavior is documented; but the consequence is just a reminder to behave.

YELLOW- Student loses 5 minutes of recess and a note is sent home letting parent know about their behavior.

ORANGE- Student loses 10 minutes of recess and gets a phone cal home letting parents know about their behavior.

RED- Student loses all recess and is sent to the school redirector.
